Yeti FRO 1991

I recently bought a used Yeti FRO frameset from 1991. It will be a nice restoration project for the next couple of years.

So the XBOX 360 has just been launched. It feels like yesterday when I got my XBOX so I was a bit surprised to hear that the next iteration of the box would come out so soon, even before the year was over.

Two years before the XBOX came out I was playing with the idea of making an emulator console. A simple PC mounted in a console style case with TV-output and a front-end program enabling me to choose roms and emus.

There where three problems at the time.

1.) There was no easy (cheap) way of getting output from a PC into a television in the resolution of the emulators.

2.) There was no front-end program that worked with emulators and enabled the user to quit back to the front-end program from an emulator.

3.) The XBOX was coming, and everyone was predicting it would be hacked and emulators would be released.

The XBOX did get hacked and lots of emulators appeared for it. At first emulators where rushed out but suddenly things slowed down and not many new emus were released anymore. But the idea of having a single console emulating other consoles was real. But that didn’t make things easier. When you have over 10.000 roms, how do you know which one to play?!

Amiga games are not considered rare, as with most computer games they never reach the same cult status as console games sometimes get. What if IK+ was released exclusively in Japan as a 16-bit title on the Super Nintendo? It would probably be worth quite a lot here in Europe.

There are however some computer games that has become very expensive in the second hand market. The first game that comes to my mind is Ultima, the complete package with the cloth map intact can fetch a mighty sum on the ‘bay’. Another game is the Turrican series that is very sought after in Germany among Amiga collectors.

I would like to give any Amiga collector the chance to own two of the rarest Amiga titles in the world. I have Turrican 1 and 2 for CDTV for sale if you want to take a look check them out here:

Is the PSP web browser better than any Amiga browser?

It is amusing that the browser in the PSP is better than any Amiga web browser I have ever used.

The PSP browser hasnt crashed, works relatively good even though it is only 480 pixels wide and works with normal sites with standard web technology.

On the Amiga side though, finding a browser capable of using CSS is impossible, if you dont want to run Linux on your Amiga and then Netscape/Mozilla in X.

Finding a use for my PSP, finally!

Yesterday I upgraded my PSP to the latest firmware. The main reason for this was the browser. Now I can’t use homebrew software anymore but I suspect if I want another portable emulation station I will get the GP2X.

I made a quick bookmarks startup page for my PSP and put it on my homepage at www.erkan.se/psp

Whenever I start my PSP browser it will go to my bookmarks page directly. This makes things a lot easier since it is tedious writing down internet addresses with the PSP.

I believe the killer app for the PSP could very well be the built in browser if only we would code all our pages to look as good in 480 pixels wide as in 1024 pixels wide.

This blog will be my personal blog. I will show stuff I buy and other things I find interesting. I will also open up a hardware oriented blog focusing on computer hardware and electronics.
